JESUS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD of the Lafayette Church of the Brethren

Saturday, September 9, 2023, the Lafayette (IN) Church of the Brethren held a “Giveaway Morning” on their south lawn.  For a few weeks, members had been setting aside underused items from their homes and from the Church knowing that someone else might need or be able to use the items. We planned a cost-free “yard sale” to give away these things and create an opportunity to meet people from the neighborhood.

The morning of September 9, seven families set up tables, clothing racks, tarps, and sheets and displayed the many items they brought to give away.  Included were clothing, books, CDs, DVDs, two bicycles, four sets of golf clubs, furniture, camping equipment, Christmas décor, arts & crafts supplies, etc.   One family also provided hotdogs, apples, chips, and drinks and others provided various morning snacks of scones, clementines, mini-coffeecakes, and chocolates.

Over one hundred neighbors of all ages came to see what was going on and take home what they wanted.  Many were surprised that it was all free and many enjoyed the lunch.  There were numerous conversations among the hosts and guests.

We all enjoyed the morning very much and already there is talk of doing it again next year, hopefully with more families and neighbors!  To the Glory of God and our neighbors good!  It truly was a beautiful day in the neighborhood.
